I was so excited when Sugarpill finally came out with not one but two new collections recently. I immediately wanted order everything they came out with, but I had to be like, "No Chelsea, pace yourself, you don't need it all at once." So after looking at a million and one swatches of both collections I finally settled on buying the Cold Chemistry palette and let me tell you- this palette is GORGEOUS!
So this palette is actually a collaboration between Sugarpill and Amelia Arsenic, who is the designer of fashion and art brand A is for Arsenic London. Sugarpill's website says that, "This dark collision of glamour and nocturnal worlds features four richly pigmented, shimmering meteoric shades which blend seamlessly together. The collection combines Amelia's dark aesthetic with Sugarpill's trademark velvety smooth eyeshadow formula. " This quad sells for $34 or you can purchase your favorite shadow(s) in single form for $12 each.
If you've never used Sugarpill's shadows, they are super buttery and uber pigmented . Now pretty much all of the pressed shadows in Sugarpill's line are matte, but these four shadows are all shimmery with micro-fine glitters in them. All four shades apply beautifully to the eyes. The pigmentation is top notch and I was super impressed at how perfectly the shimmers and glitters show up when applied to the eyes. There's nothing I hate more than when you have a shimmery or glittery eyeshadow and when you go to apply it you have more glitter on your cheeks than your eyes. I tested these shadows with and without primer and found that either way they both showed up true to color and lasted for hours. These shadows are top notch and truly beautiful.
The packaging of the palette is nice and sleek. It's made out of cardboard and has a magnetic closure. The front of the packaging looks like shattered glass with crystals and diamonds on it. The back has four diamonds with the names and colors of the shadows in the palette. I really love that the mirror in the inside of the palette actually looks like a broken shard of glass, so it keeps with the whole theme. The shadows in this palette are huge, so you're getting a lot of product for your money. I also think the shades they picked are perfect for not only the theme, but the time of year they were released. The shadows are deep and smokey, with the exception of Diamond Eyes which is the most perfect shimmery white.
^Soot & Stars: is a deep shimmery charcoal with multi-colored microglitters
^Diamond Eyes: Opaque shimmery white with a slight pink sheen. This color is perfect for all over the lid or for a super bright inner corner highlight. This color is too bright and opaque to use on the brow bone, but if that's what you like go for it.
^Elemental Chaos: Deep shimmery purple with a slight blue tint and blue and purple micro-glitters
^Subterranean: dark shimmery forest green with green micro-glitters
All in all I'm very happy with this palette. The colors are beautiful, the pigmentation is great, and the amount of product you get is awesome. The only thing that kind of sucks is this is not a palette you would use all by itself. Some people might be able to use this to create a full look, but I still need to bring in a brow highlight shade and a blending shade at least. However, since I do love the shades so much and how they apply I don't have any problem mixing in other shadows. I think this palette is perfect to create a beautiful Fall/Winter smokey eye. I'm so excited to create some fun looks using these shadows and can't wait to share them with you!
