Falling Leaves: A Makeup How-To

Hey guys! I wore this look yesterday and loved it so much that I just had to put up a how-to on here so that ya'll can re-create it for yourselves. This look was inspired by the changing leaves on the trees outside my window. I wanted to incorporate the warm browns, oranges, gold, greens, and a bit of the russet/red color you normally find during Fall time. I love that this look is unique, yet perfect for Autumn and the shades in this look will complement a multitude of eye and skin colors. I also love the contrast of having such a sharp outer edge mixed with a super blended gradient crease. This look is all about the layering, as well. I wanted to be able to layer colors on top of one another to not only create a highly dimensional look, but also to create different shades of colors. This look is also really great for someone like me, who has more of a rounded eye and really wants to extend their eyes and create more of an exotic look. The angled cat eye shape to the shadow and the eyeliner made my eyes look so sexy and sultry. Since the eyes are so dramatic, I kept the rest of the face relatively natural. I wanted the skin to look very flawless with a semi-matte finish and the cheeks to have a rosy/bronze flush to them. I also used my new Lime Crime opaque lipstick in "Cocquette", which is a pretty peachy nude shade that went well with the eyes and didn't over power the look. I did bounce around to a few different palettes to create the eyes, but you don't have to. I will explain what type of colors you need and you just use what you have. I'm just really happy with how this look came out and I'm so excited to be able to share with you all, so keep reading to find out how to create this look for yourself!

How To: EYES

-You want the edges of this look to be very sharp, so either place a piece of tape at the outer edge or wait until the eyes are finished and sharpen the look up with a makeup wipe. Then prime your lids with your favorite primer to ensure the shadows look and stay vibrant and so that they don't crease.

-On a fluffy brush take a light, warm brown shadow and blend it into the crease to act as your blending shade. Then highlight the brow with a satin-finish cream eyeshadow.

-Take a bright gold shadow, one with a slight green-ish undertone works best and apply it to the lids, leaving just the very outer corner open. You also want to run this shade around the tear ducts and into the inner corner of the lower lash line.

-Take a very warm, orange based medium brown and apply it into your upper crease. You want this shade to be able to peak over the rest of the shades you will be applying into your crease.

-This is where layering your shades come in. You want to start off with a light-to-medium red-based brown shadow and blend it into your crease, starting right underneath the last shade. With these deeper shades you want to angle up the outer edge, so it creates a cat eye shape.

-Then take a slightly deeper red-based brown shadow and apply it into the crease and outer corner. You want to blend slightly between each shade you apply so that there are no harsh lines.

-Now, on a very small blending brush, take a very deep dark red-based brown, or any very deep matte brown, and apply it right into your socket line and outer corner. You want this shade to stay right in your socket and not go to high. You also want it to be thicker on the outer corner and thinner the more you move inward.

-Take a white shadow with a teal or green duo-chrome, I used Lumi from Sugarpill, and apply it right over the gold shadow in the inner part of the lid, lower lash line, and around the tear duct. This creates a gorgeous, highly dimensional unique gold with a green sheen. It also brightens the inner part of the eye, opening your eyes up.

-On the remaining part of the lower lash line, apply a matte burgundy or wine shadow. You could also use a shimmery shadow of the same color or one of your red-based browns.

-Taking a black liquid liner, line the upper lash line winging it out at the outer edges. You want your wing to line up with the outer edge of the shadow.

-Rim your waterlines with a black eyeliner and add lots of black mascara to the top and bottom lashes to complete the look.

How To:

FACE

-Apply your favorite foundation primer all over your face to prep your skin for foundation.

-Taking a damp sponge, apply a full coverage foundation. You want to have flawless skin, but using a damp sponge will allow the foundation to look more natural.

-Apply concealer under the eyes and onto any redness or spots.

-Set everything with a translucent powder. You want to take down the shine and make sure your foundation doesn't move around.

-Use a cool toned bronzer to contour under your cheek bones and around your temples to sculpt the face. Then apply a matte neutral toned blush.

-Use your favorite highlighter to highlight the tops of the cheek bones, down the bridge of the nose, and your cupid's bow. 

-Fill in your eyebrows so that they are defined, yet still natural looking.

-Set everything with a makeup setting spray to take down any cakiness and to ensure that your makeup lasts all day.

-Add your favorite peach-y nude lipstick and your look is complete.
