Hey guys! First off, let me just tell you how excited I am to have finally gotten my Urban Decay NAKED 3 palette in the mail! Secondly, can I say how crazy it is for Urban Decay to release a third NAKED palette just slap in the middle of the Holiday season. I was super surprised that they released another palette after having just released the Vice 2 palette and a myriad of other holiday products. That being said, have to admit that I am obsessed with this palette, but kind of wish they would have waited until the first of the year to release it just so it'd be a little easier on everyone's wallet. However, this palette is here and it is awesome!
So let's start this review off with the basics of the palette: It sells for $52, has 12 brand-new shades (3 matte and 9 shimmer), the color scheme is very mauve and rose toned (which I love), the packaging is rose gold metal and looks very similar to NAKED 2's packaging. The palette also includes a double ended, synthetic brush and a card that contains little samples of their eyeshadow primers.
Now onto what I think of the palette: I am absolutely in love with this palette. I love that all of the colors have a rose-y undertone, which I see fitting a variety of skin and eye colors. I'm very happy that all the shades in this palette are brand new and not repeats from other palettes, which UD likes to do sometimes and I'm also happy that there is a nice matte highlight shade that's light enough for my skin tone. I'm really liking all the shades in this palette, however there are a couple shades that aren't super great. I found that the shade "Dust" is very, well, dusty and bitty but when applied wet or just over a sticky base it does look really pretty on the lid. The other color that's sort of disappointing is "Trick", which looks gorgeous in the pan but isn't quite as pigmented when applied. You really have to pack the color on to get it to look as beautiful as it does in the pan. Other than that the only thing that i wish this palette had was a deeper, dark matte shade. I love the two dark shadows in this palette, but I feel like if they would have included a matte dark plum shadow or something along those lines this palette would be true perfection. I know so many people are going to want to know how this palette compares to the other NAKED palettes and for me I find that while there are only a couple shades that kind of look like shades from the other two palettes this palette is extremely unique and the shades are seriously beautiful.
Strange, Dust, Burnout, Limit:
^Strange: pale neutral pink matte-satin. This is a very light, creamy colored shadow that is amazing for an all over lid shade or a brow highlight. I love that this is a matte shade, but has the slightest hint of a sheen so it doesn't look flat or dry on your eyes.
Dust: pale metallic pink shimmer w/ iridescent micro-glitter. This shadow is basically a pressed pigment, so while it is very bitty and gritty once you apply it the color is really shiny and metallic looking. I recommend using this shade wet or applying it over a very sticky base, so it has something to adhere to.
Burnout: light pinky-peach satin. This is a pretty lid color, that reminds me of a slightly deeper "Sin" from the N1 palette.
Limit: light dusty rose matte. I love this shadow! It's such a unique neutral matte pink/brown shade, that looks so beautiful as a transition or crease shade.
Buzz, Trick, Nooner, Liar
^Buzz: metallic rose shimmer w/ silver micro-glitter. This is a really pretty metallic rose shadow
Trick: light metallic pinky-copper shimmer w/ tonal micro-sparkle. This is a gorgeous, unique golden pink shadow. However, to get this shadow to show up true to what it looks like in the pan, you want to pat it on over a sticky base. Once you do that, this shadow looks amazing and really brings out the warmth in my eyes.
Nooner: medium pinky-brown matte. This is a beautiful matte crease color. It kind of reminds me of "Tease" from the N2 palette, only this shadow is much more pigmented and deeper in tone.
Liar: medium metallic mauve shimmer. I love how soft and pigmented this shade is. It applies smoothly on the lid and looks really pretty for a day-time smoky eye.
Factory, Mugshot, Darkside, Blackheart
^Factory: pinky-brown satin. This is a pretty medium brown shadow with a slight hint of a rose undertone.
Mugshot: metallic taupe shimmer w/ a slight pink shift. This is one of my favorite shadows in the entire palette. It's such a gorgeous taupe shadow with just a touch of pink. I'm always on the hunt for that perfect taupe shadow and this one is perfection!
Darkside: deep taupe-mauve satin. This is a dark taupe shadow that's perfect to create a smoky eye.
Blackheart: smoky black matte w/ rosy red micro-sparkle. I love, love, LOVE this shadow! This is a dark black shadow filled with rose shimmers. I've used this color to deepen up the outer corner and crease, which looks awesome, but I can't wait to use it all over my lid to create a super deep smoky eye.
(Dual ended brush included)
Final Thoughts: I am so happy to have this palette in my collection. I found that most of the shades are extremely unique and don't look like other things I already have. I feel like the rose undertones in the shadows are neutral enough to complement lots of skin tones, so I see lots of people liking this palette. The original palette is mainly warm toned and the NAKED 2 palette is extremely cool toned, so I feel like if you're looking to just own one of the NAKED palettes, what kind of undertone you have is going to play a big part in choosing. For me, who owns all of the palettes, I have to say that I could pass on the NAKED 2 but I could not see myself not owning the first palette or this palette. I already can see that the NAKED 3 is going to be one of my most used palettes. I love that UD kept with the metal packaging on the new palette, because while it is still compact, it feels sturdy and makes you feel that your shadows are well protected. I'm also a really big fan of the range of colors they have in this palette, as well. I was scared at first that there wasn't going to be enough variation in color to create a multitude of looks, but there is enough shades in here to create everything from super natural to deep and sultry looks. I think the price is a great deal for the amount of product you receive, however I wish UD would have a waited a few more months to release it so it would've been a little easier on people's wallet. Other than that I have nothing else bad to say.
This is an amazing palette and I think if you want it, you should buy it.
Everyday Eye using the NAKED 3 palette:
-Apply UD Primer Potion all over the lids and under the lower lash line
-Blend "Limit" into the crease to act as your blending shade.
-Then highlight your brow bone and around the tear ducts with "Strange".
-Pat "Dust" into the inner 1/3 of the lid, then apply "Buzz" and "Liar" to the rest of the remaining lid.
-Blend "Nooner" into the crease and outer corner of the eye, then apply it under the eye as well.
-Instead of using eyeliner, I took "Blackheart" on a damp angled brush and winged it out to create a very soft cat eye.
-Apply a brown liner to the waterlines of your eyes and lots of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
Hope ya'll liked this post and let me know if you bought the UD NAKED 3 palette!
I am totally obsessing over this palette too! I haven't had the chance to buy it yet, but I can't wait! You did an amazing job with the look too. :) I agree, though. It wouldn't have hurt to wait a little while to release this palette.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley! I have to say, that I am seriously in love with this palette and I totally wasn't expecting to love it quite so much but it's truly beautiful!
